Oh Man... What a Night..

Or morning... What should I call it? Yesterday was by far the best sleep I have gotten in a long time.

Since I am a Reality TV junkie now... I must tell you to watch the show on MTV called Rob and Big. Has to be one of the funniest shows on TV. you still have time to catch up as it's only on the 2nd episode of the new season. It doesn't get much funnier than a white skinny skateboarder and his 400lb black body guard. I mean come on that picture alone should make you laugh.

Rolled in last night for Mandatory Metallica and I must say a great way to bring in Thursday with "Trapped Under Ice", "Ain't My Bitch" and "Tuesday's Gone".

It was a little slow with phone calls for some reason but I made it happen. Last Call had some GnR, Foreigner, Golden Earring, and Metallica's "Last Caress / Green Hell". I will be the first one to tell you the words are a little messed up in that song but it still rocks. I bring this up since I got the first hate call last night and it amazes me that someone is offended by the lyrics of this song, but they are ok with the other countless number of songs written about sex, drugs, alcohol, murder or worse. To each their own I guess. Then you have the guys who are just plain technical. I played a double shot of Pink Floyd and someone decided to call and tell me that it was actually 3 songs. The songs in question were "Brain Damage / Eclipse" and "Pigs". Technically I agree but Brain Damage and Eclipse are never played as two separate tracks. If I was to play "Brain Damage" without the other part that same person would have called me up and said "Hey why didn't you play Eclipse?". Therefore this was a double shot. Not a threefer.

Also here is some good reading....
New Times Belle of the Ball Gag. If anything you have to read it for the title alone. I will tell you it involves Yngwie Malmsteen and a pretty hot chick who can drink and kick your ass. It's good reading.

Rounded out the morning with the new Ozzy. Then it was off to the gym for a good run.

Memorial Day Weekend

Well it's been a few days since the last post but that's only because of the holiday weekend and the amount of cold beer that was put down. A good friend came in to town that I met while working in N.C. Jim is crazy. The guy now sees the world through his digital camera. I think the only time it left his hand was when he had to pay for his food. He came into town at the last minute and we decided to hit the Queensryche show on Friday night.

I must say that the first hour or so of that show was a little slow for me.. OK boring. I knew one song in that time and it was "Sign of the Times". When the show did pick up it was awesome. Someone needs to tell those guys to mix it up a little more at the beginning of the show. Met the guys after the show... super nice guys. The new guitarist is damn good. His name is Mike Stone.

Saturday was more cold ones in the afternoon until game time. Then it was off to the Dbacks game where they ended up winning and eventually swept the series from the Astros. It was my first time to that ballpark and it was a cool experience. Very nice facilities. After the game it was off to a local dive bar where we were entertained by the worst local cover band I have ever seen. I'm not sure what the deal was with these guys but damn. Some of the worst versions of 80's hair I have heard.

Sunday a few rounds at the tilted kilt and have I mentioned the girls working there are freakin awesome.

It's like one walks in and the one coming in to work next was hotter than the last. Needless to say I love that place. We had to stop drinking by about 8 p.m. since I had to be up at 4 a.m. to fill in for JR and Marci since they had the day off for the holiday.

Ended up just laying on the couch the rest of the afternoon until it was game time at Midnight. What a way to bring in the work week and get everyone pumped was the 3fer from Metallica. "Sabbra Cadabra", "Leper Messiah", and "Blackened". Calls were coming in all night which makes the night go by much faster. Even Sinnndee checked in. She told me she spells her name with 3 "N's" since she can't have 3 "XXX's" in it. Last Call was another evening of great listener reuqests like "Lumberjack" from Jackyl, Pat Travers "Snortin Whiskey", and the new Ozzy track "I Don't Wanna Stop".

Always keep the requests coming in and you can email them as well to roadie@kdkb.com

Part 2

As I mentioned Sunday just a relaxing day and recovered for the most part. Oh but there is always Monday. Did the typical Monday routine had only a few hours sleep and back into the station for biz stuff.

It's the last night in town for my friends.. so what does that mean.. more drinks. Drove out to meet them for a few cold ones before the shift. Good to know that everyone did survive. The girls from the Sagasta Salon joined us again. I slacked off though and didn't get a chance to figure out if they would give me a cut. Well a trim in my case. Oh well..Maybe someone from there will read this and contact me at
roadie@kdkb.com. I actually controlled myself this night and only had like 3 so I could function for the All Night Jam Session (12a-5a) and entertain the masses.

The session started off great as always with Mandatory Metallica but I got slowly more tired as the night went on. At one point I thought morning show producer, Jon Watson, was going to find me with my head down on the console sleeping. I was walking around the building getting the blood going again and it kept me awake for the next hour until I was out the door.

All in all it was great partying with Brian, Chris, Julie, the Sagasta Salon girls, and the rest of the crowd to round out the extended weekend. Well at least in my book it was.

Tuesday got started off with a bang as I started the request a set for Mandatory Metallica. Dave was the first with "the Small Hours", "One" and "Am I Evil". Request your 3 Metallica tunes for Monday
raodie@kdkb.com Let me know where your listening (work, home etc..) Name, City, and of course your 3 Met songs.

Last Call was an interesting one. Things got rolling with Pat Travers "Boom Boom", then threw in some Ozzy, Ratt, and Blue Oyster Cult. Always manage to get an interesting phone call or 2 during this time period and tonight was no exception. Michelle the skinny dipper checked in. She needed to hear some Tesla to go along with her nightly naked swim. I was happy to oblige. After talking about the Tesla show and their new CD more calls came in to hear a new tune so put on "Ball Of Confusion" covering the Temptations. Michelle our skinny dipper called back to say I should have played "Thank You" instead but maybe I will whip that one out tonight. She did express her approval for "Heavens Trail". Good to know I have the naked vote.

I got to end the morning with a call from the Postal Service. Always interesting talking to them. I just forgot to ask why they always go nuts. Do people at the post office say "don't make me go postal"? If not what do they say?

It's About Time...

So I guess you have all been wondering why I haven't posted anything...Or maybe you haven't.

Well the answer to that is very simple...

BEER! Ice cold frosty beverages. I love it. Give me some Budweiser and I am good to go.

Thursday evening started off having a few cold ones with the staff here and it just rolled into the weekend with some old friends from days past. Granite City, IL was represented for a few booze filled days. I haven't seen a couple of these guys since high school and it was just random finding out they were coming out to Phoenix. Commence drinking. Also in the mix was the owner of Sagasta Salon. Always good meeting someone who knows how to cut hair because I never know when I need to get a haircut and a cup of coffee. You just don't understand what I go through to find someone who can cut hair. I have the easiest haircut to do yet it's freakin ridiculous to find someone. Plus It was hot ladies in the mix so who is complaining?

I meet them at a freakin' bowling alley around 11:30 p.m. with about 5 or 6 full pitchers of beer and they needed to be gone by 12:30 or something since that's when they shut the place down. Well one of the girls that was hanging that evening decided to slam down this pitcher and it came right back up about 20 minutes later. Good times friends...Good times.

Night at the Bowling Alley $80
Jeans and shirt $60
Chugging pitcher N/C
Puking in your friends yard PRICELESS

This was only the beginning of the night. I felt bad for a second or two then thought you know .. I have been there and no one ever felt bad for me.. but hey it was fun and she was a trooper she ended up partying through the weekend with us.

I think I managed to sleep for about 7 hours this weekend. Saturday just got worse as the beer was better than ever and made the rounds to a few bars beginning at the Valley Ho hotel. I will say this ... Great lookin' women as eye candy.. Shitty service. I guess I just didn't look like I made enough money. Oh well.. in the end I still ended up like Friday. The shot of Jack Daniels didn't help the situation...Man I love some Jack Daniels but warm it sucks...Must be on the rocks. Sunday was the recovery day, but no sleep which sucked. Managed to watch the E! True Hollywood story on the Osbournes. Don't miss this. Very interesting.

Needless to say Monday morning was a nightmare but the crazy 3rd shifters for the All night Jam Session kept me going. More later....

Hump Day

Yesterday was just one of those where I couldn't sleep a wink all damn day. Sucked!

Also Ruby decided to give me some shit since I didn't go hang with her at the Suns party on Monday night. Little did she know I was sound asleep through the entire game. I'm still pissed about that.

On to Mandatory Metallica...Oh Man tonight was f***in' ass kickin'. "Fight Fire with Fire", "Creeping Death", and "Harvester of Sorrow". I am pumped just typing out that threesome.

Phones were weird tonight...I swear there was a giant cloud of pot over the Valley. Just about everyone who called sounded like they were ready to pass out. It got to be quite amusing. Last Call had some different requests which is a great thing. Tossed in Pantera's "Cemetary Gates" and to the other end Bob Dylan's "Hurricane". That is definitely everything that rocks.

By about 3:30 or so I was ready to sleep. Still tired from no rest the day before but made myself hit the gym. Again do people take a bath in Ben Gay or what? Damn. If you have to wear it that's one thing but to shower in it is another.

Rockin Through the Night...

First and foremost...Congrats to the Suns. Tying the series up at 2 - 2. Steve Nash with 24 points and Raja Bell with 12. Another great game in this awesome series. Now back to U.S. Airways for game 5. I just wish I would have seen it. I slept right through the damn thing. I caught the abbreviated version on ESPN.
Always great to stop in to the station during the afternoon and see what the "normal" peeps are doing. I use the term normal loosely. Let's face it none of us here are normal thats why we are in the radio biz. It's good to hang and some people still see me in and say "Who are you?" What time do you work?

I cruise into work and fire up a little Mandatory Metallica with "Blitzkrieg", "One" and "Frantic". Covered everything there from the first disc to the latest.

Last Call this morning was rocking. That is the understatement of the year. "Holy Diver" from Dio, Iron Maiden's "Powerslave" for a dude who was so hammered he could hardly tell me what he wanted to hear but it was damn funny. Also threw in some Velvet Revolver and rounding out the show with Accept's "Balls to the Wall". Hearing that song always makes me think of Beavis and Butthead.

Keep making the requests for both Last Call and Mandatory Metallica. Time to head to bed for the first time today.

So I'm A Little Late

Monday was a rough one....

I had a kick ass weekend just kicked back had some beers on both Friday and Saturday. I spent the first part of the night Saturday with Dock down at the Half Moon Sports Bar.. pretty cool place. Game sucked. Tough loss for the Suns, but we got em in game 4. Sunday was one of those days were I got up and went straight to the couch. I did make it to the gym so I didn't feel like such a lazy bastard. I also managed to watch the E! True Hollywood Story on Tawny Kitaen.

Damn she was so hot in the day. Another one that hit the wall ... HARD! And damn talk about a chick that made the rounds. Whoa...She did have David Coverdale whipped and it was funny listening to Rudy Sarzo talk about it. I think she was hot until about 1995 or '96.

Just watch it. Even the great producer and A & R man John Kolander makes an appearance. He seems quite sad that Tawny interefered in the greatness of WhitesnakeThat was the extent of my productiveness though until Midnight...Then it was off to KDKB.

No matter how tired I am when I roll in at 12 a.m. When the first note of Metallica hits I'm in! "Killing Time", "Holier Than Thou", and "Bleeding Me" was the set. You can say the Black album was a sellout but I will still tell you that CD is amazing. "Holier Than Thou" is right up there with something from "Master of Puppets" and that is a big statement since that I think is the bands greatest album.

It was also an interesting night of phone calls. I think it was the most women who have called in during one evening. Always a few crazy folks (you know who you are) make their way through. I love talking to them. They definitely help pass the time. Had a couple of cab drivers make a few requests last night. That's awesome. Cabbies rockin to KDKB. Some great requests came in for Last Call including Kid Rock's "Cowboy" and the Meatpuppets "Backwater" plus Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction". Hell Yeah you were rockin'.

We will do it again this morning.. Make your requests at from 12a - 5a 602-260-9393 or
roadie@kdkb.com

Welcome to the Weekend

The weekend is here! It's going to be a double shot weekend which is always cool. Plus if you haven't checked out the Deep End show on Sunday morning...do so ...it's great music for your hangover.

The rest of yesterday turned out pretty good. Colin our Promotions Coordinator had to come in and tell me some ghost stories and well that is just shit I don't need to hear. Went home and I watched some Survivor. I have become a reality TV addict I think. Its crazy a few yrs ago I was hardly watching TV.

Alice had another cool show last night, but the Fun and Freaky Facts segment was a little weird last night talking about how much guys fart...Don't worry you read correctly.

Bringing in the Friday with "Breadfan", "Damage Case", and "Ain't My Bitch".

Last Call this morning was great kicked things off with Robin Trower's "Bridge of Sighs" which got the phones going. Still a lot of people not familiar with that song. Another great thing about Phoenix is the amount of Black Sabbath fans here. Played "Sweet Leaf" and yet calls still rolled in asking for more Sabbath. Last night was one of those nights I couldn't play enough of them. Also cranked up David Coverdale era Deep Purple with "Burn".. and whoever requested that needs to be thanked. Simply put it just ROCKED!

Rounded out the morning with Warrant's "Cherry Pie". Made me think of the good ol days of MTV not only when they played videos but there was always a hot chick in the videos. Bobby Brown the star of Cherry Pie and well we just need to remember those days.

Watch the video here "Cherry Pie Video".Man she really hit the wall and looks like hell, but that does happen to groupies. Just ask Tawny Kitean. I mean hell if I saw her dancing on my car I would call the cops.

Ended the morning shooting some hoops at the gym and I have to thank the guys there for not wearing so much Ben Gay. Some days it's just like a freakin factory in there.

O.J. Back in the News

Not a damn thing happened today. Even though I slept for like an hour it was pretty uneventful. I did read the story of the restaurant owner who kicked O.J. Simpson out the night before the Kentucky Derby. Simpson leaves without any problems and now his attorney is trying to sue the guy thinking he kicked him out because of race. What the hell...I'm still not sure why the murderer would be at the Kentucky Derby.

Alice again playing some killer shit during his show...Traffic "Rock N Roll Stew", Aerosmith "Draw the Line", Maiden's "Wasted Years" and Megadeth's cover of Mr. Coop himself "No More Mr. Nice Guy".

Mandatory Metallica was "The Unforgiven II", "Battery" and "The Shortest Straw".

I think the best request tonight was "Wicked Sensation" by the Lynch Mob. It was awesome hearing that song again for the first time in years. Made me think of how great that album was and hearing George Lynch rip it up on guitar.

Rounded out the morning with Bon Scott AC/DC "Live Wire" and Zep's "Kashmir".

Hump Day

Last night a cousins, nephews, uncles sister's bands roadies friend sent me more of the "leaked" Axl N Roses tunes....I was sent 3 of these and I think one might have been OK. In other words take my word for it. This CD is NOT going to be worth the wait. Am I disapointed? Yes. I have been a fan of this band for years as I mentioned yesterday. Honestly don't waste your time trying to find these songs. I think you will agree with me.

I am also going to lose any street cred I had by saying that I watched American Idol last night and why in the hell would they put Barry Gibb on the show? I mean it's bad enough that he sucks but then the audience has to be subjected to even worse covers of him and the Bee Gees. It's like a car wreck you just have to slow down and look. I just couldn't turn the TV off.

Then I flipped on the Suns game... AWESOME! Conrats to the team for tying up the series. 1 game a piece as it heads back to San Antonio. It was cool that even the owner of the Suns had on a band aid across his nose showing support for Steve Nash.

Alice threw in some killer music last night like the Stones' "Miss Amanda Jones", "Plaster Caster" was thrown in there also and that was just the first hour. Also in the show Ozzy's "21st Schizoid Man", and Foghat "Easy Money".

Then it was Metallica and I cranked up "Blackened", "Fuel", and the classic "The Four Horsemen". I still love how the label back in '83 thought that the album title "Metal Up Your Ass" was to offensive but a bloody hammer was ok.

The listener requests get better every night for Last Call... Just when I think I have heard them all someone manages to floor me a deep cut or something I just haven't heard in years. Keep them coming we will take care of them.

Ending the show this morning with Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It".

What do you want to do with your life? I Wanna ROCK!

Axl N Roses & Alice

Yesterday was one of those days where I slept like 4 hours. Man that is the worst. Makes the day really shi**y. I swear I get more junk mail at this apartment than any place I have ever lived. Does anyone know how to stop this? If so email me roadie@kdkb.com ..not to mention the person who lived there before me decided they didn't need to fill out a change of address form.. IDIOTS!

I also heard what is supposed to be another track on Chinese Democracy by Axl 'N' Roses. So far I have heard 2 songs (Better, There Was a Time or T.W.A.T.) that are supposed to be on this disc, and I have to be honest I am really let down. I guess the T.W.A.T. is they way Axl is being cutting edge these days..I just don't know. You would think that after 10 years or whatever the hell it's been that this album would be "The Wall". At this point I am sure there is unreleased stuff tha he could have put out just to hold the fans over. I have always been a fan of Axl, but I think this guy has gone off the deep end. It's almost like he is just trying to hard. I think it really comes down to that he doesn't have Slash, Duff and the rest of the guys that made GNR what it was. Let's face it GNR had the chance to really be the next music icons. Axl had to go and screw it up. As I listen to the song "There Was a Time" I keep thinking he can never pull off this tune live. The notes are to high and it will kill his voice even more so than what it is now. "Better" seems to have grown on me at this point. I just hope there is a few good songs on this disc. Axl needs to lose the cornrows too. I mean just look at the difference...Obviously the pic below is the rebelious, rocker that needs to write the next GNR record.

I don't mention much about Alice's show simply because it speaks for itself. I tell you though some of the things that he says just leave me laughing my ass off. The other times I think to myself how the hell does he get away with it. It's a very cool thing to have him on the station and he plays some kick ass music. When he digs deep into his vault you just sit back and think wow.. this is some good shit. Last week he played "Little Red Rooster" by the Stones, Zappa's cover of "Whipping Post" with Steve Vai on guitar, and for Cinco De Mayo playing the Spanish version of David Lee Roth's "Yankee Rose". You just never know what he is going to play so make sure your tuned in before I rock your 3rd shift.

Mandatory Metallica for your Tuesday was "I Disappear", "Bad Seed" and "Fade to Black".

Great calls again last night and I do everything I can to get your requests on for Last Call. Keep them coming I will get to them. My friends from the grocery stores made their presence again last night and it seems as if Basha's is getting in on this. I was told by an insider though that Fry's ALWAYS has the Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop Tarts.

Off to another day at the gym lifting with my boss... This is never something I look forward to, but something that has to be done.. I will fill you in more if I can actually type anymore later.

Cinco De Mayo / Monday

After 4 days the water is finally fixed. Not without some issues first though. I tell you this place is slooooooow at getting things done. They suck.

Had a couple of events on Saturday for the station. The first was a remote at an RV place and honestly it brought back the tour bus memories. It's defenitely not all glitz on those things. They can be fun times though. Later in the evening it was off to the Arizona Rattlers game. I was hosting the Champs throw during one of the time outs. The object was to throw the football through the uprights from about 30 yards out. Our contestant was Nick and he didn't do so well the first throw. He was way wide to the right and short. The second throw was a little better but he still missed. He still walked away with a $25 gift certificate though. The Rattlers ended up losing the game, but it was cool to watch the game from the field.

They were great hosts for the evening and even had a # 93 jersey for me to wear. Cool stuff. Not to mention the other perk of being on the field was hanging with their cheerleaders the Sidewinders. Very hot chicks, and great personalities. Nice girls too. Hanging out front of the U.S. Airways Arena taking photos and hanging with the Rattler fans.

To round out my Cinco I went to a neighborhood bar and had a few drinks. It's always cool to walk in and they are playing your station. Of course there was the one guy who walked up to me and said "How many times have people told you that you look like Gregg Allman?" I swear if I had a nickel for everytime I heard that. I woud really be with Cher. When I mention it on the air no one ever believes me. I ask you why would I tell people I look like that guy of all people if I didn't?

Moving on.....

Tough game for the Suns. They just couldn't get the needed rebounds. Great game and it's going to be an awesome series.

In to the station to ROCK Monday. So let it be written so let it be done. Mandatory Metallica kicked ass with "Helpless", "Eye of the Beholder", and "Last Caress/Green Hell". Everyone still loves the old shit from Metallica. Cranked up some Cooper's "Welcome to My Nightmare" and "Gone Shootin'" from AC/DC. Bon Scott era is the best! It just doesn't get any better. I still say "Highway to Hell" is the greatest AC/DC album. Plus always cool to get listener feedback on a tune like Gone Shootin and that was done. People are still shocked when they hear it, but they love it. I believe the exact words from one loyal KDKB'r was that f**kin rocked!

Last Call rounded out the night with more great requests. Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold", Sabbath's "Paranoid", Ratt's "Round and Round", and Dream Theater's "Pull Me Under".

Friday is upon us...

First things first... I think I might have to side with the 3rd shifters at Fry's. I went shopping at Safeway the other day and they didn't have Brown Sugar Cinammon Pop Tarts. What the F***! I have never went to a store that didn't have at least a couple boxes on the shelf. I had to settle for strawberry, which will just have to do. A couple days pass and I come home and eat a Pop Tart (I know shouldn't be eating it) open the package and Kellogs has decided to put a picture on the icing covering the damn thing. Normally no big deal but this one was a picture of a SPIDER! Yea a freakin spider...Now the last thing I want to see on my food is a spider be it drawn on or not. Unreal...By the way still no cold water for the washer... not even luke warm. AND still no appearance from my maintenance people and its been almost a week. I think it's time to call in the dogs.

I need to say that Tesla's Troy Lucketta stopping by the studios yesterday was awesome. The guy is one of those cool rockers who is really thankful for the success he has had. You just don't find many like that. I had a great conversation with him about how we thank god that we don't have to do something like roofing out here in the middle of the summer. He came in to discuss the bands new CD Real to Reel, and the show at the Dodge among other things.

Then back home around 5:30 p.m. and I must say I was in some pain after the workout the day before. I was doing ok until about 8p.m. It was even rou gh opening the door to the station when it was time for the show.

The set of Mandatory Metallica included "Until It Sleeps", "One", and "Some Kind of Monster". Pretty damn good set to bring in the weekend. If you can just get over the trash can sounds on that damn "St. Anger" CD it might not be that bad.

It was also another interesting Last Call with requests for "Say What You Will" from Fastaway, Uriah Heep's "Easy Livin'", UFO's "Lights Out" and ending the night with requested new Tesla and their cover of "Ball Of Confusion".

The night rolled on and off to the gym where it was leg day. I swear it was painful. Getting back into the gym is the worst transition ever. Tomorrow I will probably be barely able to walk while I'm out at the Rattlers game.

I also spoke with my old friend Bob "the Blade" this morning about how things were going for the both of us. I told him I couldn't believe he was actually having to be at the station in NC at 9a.m. That guy is one lucky S.O.B. He has gone the last DECADE coming in at 2:59 p.m. and leaving at 7:01 p.m. It was good catching up with him as he is really enjoying working in New Bern, NC at WSFL. A great Classic Rocker on the East Coast. He actually ended the conversation with words I have never heard him say and that was "Hey dude, I will call you this weekend I have to go back to work."
Have a great weekend!

Almost the Weekend

So after almost 3 months away from the gym I joined a gym here in Phoenix. So for the last couple weeks I have just been doing a few miles a day on the treadmill. Well yesterday I started doing some weights with the Buzzman from the station. Let me just say I think the goal was to really see how weak I am. After 3 months away I just can't jump back in, but I guess I have to now. I swear after 20 minutes my arms were like jello.. it was like I had never been in a gym before. It was just one of those things were you go DAMN I don't want to go back, but I will!

Made it back in for a Thursday morning show and the Metallica set last night included: "Seek and Destroy", "Sad But True", and "King Nothing". I swear the more I hear the old Metallica music the more I like it. It doesn't get old.

Last Call brought in requests for "Domino" from Kiss, Zep's "Kashmir", Mr. Seger's "Fire Lake", and one of my faves from Van Halen "Fools" from Women and Children First. As always I appreciate all the requests and I try to get them all in. There were no calls from our friends at the grocery stores makes me wonder what is up..

Later today Troy Lucketta from Tesla will be stopping by for the 420 Smoke Break with Dock and talking about their new CD "Real to Reel". Simply put.. A Fantastic disc. Plus their show at the Dodge Theater on June 12.

Hot and Cold Water

Have I mentioned yet that I hate my apartment. Not only as I mentioned before that the shui is funged, but today no hot water for a shower and yet I have no cold water for my f**king laundry. Not only did they fail to tell us that there wasn't any hot water so you could possibly make other arrangements but they say well "you haven't lived in Phoenix before and the water doesn't get cold." My response was simple..I understand it doesn't get coooold but it shouldn't be scorching hot either. Unreal. I can't wait to move yet I hate moving also. There is nothing that will start your day off more f'd up than not having any hot water. Hopefully it gets fixed today.

Here is just another great thing about Phoenix and this I have always known since the days on the road playing some of the dives. There is always a great show that rolls into this city. The Police and their reunion show hits the U.S. Airways Center on June 18th, but even last night Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave) was here. One of my faves comes back on June 12th. Tesla. They have a new CD coming out June 5th and it is incredible. It's a double CD full of awesome cover tunes that isn't just the typical. These guys as went above and beyond to find some great classics even some deeper cuts and even taking on songs you might not expect like "War Pigs" or even Sly and the Family Stone's "I Want To Take You Higher".

Another night of great calls for Last Call but tonight I think everyone was winding down. EXCEPT for the 3rd shift grocery folks... Today Safeway evened the score 1-1. We may have a new entry though as a guy called in from Basha's. I think it's about to get interesting.

I will say this the Safeway by me is to small its hard to even make it through the damn isles. I have never shopped at Fry's though.

It's Last Call

After a good weekend headed back into the station and like everynight it was Mandatory Metallica. Tonight was a damn good one.. It's pretty much impossible to keep the volume down even when the listeners are calling in. Tonight was "Blitzkrieg", "Frantic", and "Master of Puppets". You just can't get any better than old Metallica, the albums "Kill Em All" and "Master of Puppets" is some of the baddest metal still! They still rock as hard as any of the bands today, and have stood the test of time as two of the greatest hard rock albums in history. The St. Anger album on the other hand is finally growing on me after 4 years. I think it began when I was in a bar in Raleigh and heard it cranked up through the bar's jukebox. When you hear something like that after some drinks your going to enjoy it. It's like watching a HOT stripper dance to a crappy song. After the dance is over you think "You know that song isn't so bad". You know you have been there.

Tonight was also the first night of "Last Call", this is in the 2 a.m. hour for all the 3rd shifters and late night partiers to get in their requests. It's kind of like Listener Appreciation Day but its every weeknight. So go ahead and email me
roadie@kdkb.com. Some great tunes in the hour tonight..Satriani "Surfing with the Alien", Robin Trower "Day of the Eagle", and Jackyl's "The Lumberjack". Some other great tunes came in and it's always tough getting all the requests but I do my best. I have to say the guy who called up and was laughing hysterically about the woman who was partying by putting together her jigsaw puzzle was great. That guy had me laughing for 30 minutes. That is the one thing about 3rd shit you just never know who is going to call in or what they are going to say.

The battle still continues between the Safeway and Frys 3rd shifters. It's great to hear them call up and tell ya the other place sucks. If I'm keeping score though Frys - 1 Safeway 0.

Another strange call that rolled in is the woman who claims she drives around Phoenix naked. She has called a few times and both times she seems to be able to call me and let me know that she is getting pulled over. If anyone has seen this woman please let me know. I'm still thinking that if your going to get pulled over anyway then drive around naked during the day! I mean hell why get pulled over and harassed when maybe 10 people might see you. Drive when EVERYONE can see you (even if they /we don't want to). I am still waiting for the night when she pulls up to the station.

Keep thinking of those requests... This is YOUR radio station.
