Sleep....zzzzz......zzz

I love sleep. The saying you can sleep when your dead is only said by those who can't sleep. I look forward to heading home from the gym at 6 or so to be able to hit the sack by 7. Today's rest sucked. I worked out the legs today at the gym and man they were killing me as I was driving home. I knew it was going to be a long day, but was not ready for what was going to happen. There is nothing worse than waking up in total pain as your calf muscle has just tightened up to the point you can't even relax your leg. Holy s**t not how I like to wake up in the afternoon. After a few minutes of that intense pain I decided that I should just get up.

Headed in to the station and had an aircheck session with Buzz, the Program Director of KDKB. Aircheck sessions for the most part I hate. It's funny but I still am not used to hearing myself on tape. Airchecks with Buzz end up being pretty funny as he gets a glimpse into the All Night Jam Session. Today the funniest call came in from some dude just walking around South Phoenix wearing a bear rug....Yea that's right a f***king bear rug. He had a backpack full of beer but didn't have anyone to drink with. Shocking isn't it? Aircheck session went well I was told sounding good.

After that the kind folks from Cricket Wireless Pavilion stopped by and I played Guitar Hero. I rocked on "You Really Got Me". That game kicks ass. I am not a "gamer" but that game makes you think you can go out and play a real guitar. I love it.....NOTE....still can't play a guitar as good as I can on Guitar Hero.

Also chowed down on Chik-Fil-A nuggets. I swear there is crack in those things. You just can't stop eating them. I don't know how many I had but it was to many.

Back home to sleep. Then watched a show on the Gran Canyon. I can't wait to visit there again. Just unbelievable.

Tonight will rock... tune in.

Monday Morning

Before I get into the morning... Check out Frank Hannon of Tesla from their Tesla Tuesday show playing "Eruption" in the studio. Just click the link under the photo and the player will open up after the download.

Time to rock once again with "Fuel" the S & M version, "Seek and Destroy" and "The Shortest Straw".

Another good thing this weekend... The Dbacks took possesion of 1st place. They have the best record right now, but who knows for how long since the Dodgers are in town for a 3 game series.

The morning started off slow but things picked up for Last Call. Started things with Rush "Passage to Bankok" for Ava who had just gotten laid. She was discussing things with her ex, you know the friends with benefits package, and well one thing led to another and she came right out and said she had gotten some and as if that wasn't enough she got it twice. It's amazing what people tell me without me even asking. I think I need to be Ava's friend though. Between her and Larry who had to hear "the Stroke" from Billy Squier to let his girlfriend know what he wanted her to do when she got over there...definitely made it an interesting night. One listener who said he would become a loyal listener if I would throw on Maiden's "Wasted Years". Well I am happy to do things like that. That also got a handful of people calling in and just yelling MAAAAIDDDDDDEN!!! That was classsic.

It must have just been one of those weekends. I was also stunned by the amount of people calling in that were still drinking and partying at 3:30 a.m on a Monday morning. Don't these people have jobs? I can't say much I do throw down a couple cold ones before the shift every now and then.

Come on by Quick Trip this afternoon from 11:30 to 1:30 and try and pick up the new Sammy Hagar DVD. I will be at the W. Union Hills Dr. location in Glendale.

The Weekend

Friday it was off to the Coyotes NHL Draft Party at Hooters. Had a few beers with Ruby and the Heater, the play by play announcer for the Coyotes, not to mention the pack girls.

Ruby then convinced me to head to the Casino and play BINGO! Exactly my reaction. Bingo? Are you serious? Well what the hell right? I figured it was worth a shot it doesn't cost much and I have a chance to bring home some dough. Before I go any further I am not much of a gambler, but I love Vegas. I just love the atomsphere of the casinos. Ruby was telling me just try it and it's not all old people. I figured she was just telling me that so I would go. Even if she was telling me that to get me to go....I figured what the hell...So it was off to Harrahs.

Before you start saying I can't believe what I'm reading... You should know that Bingo is not all blue hairs and ladies. I was surprised at the mix of people that were there. Young girls, guys, old people..everyone was there...there were even a couple hotties playing a few tables over. I must of had beginners luck because the very first game I had one number to go and it was in the monitor as the next one to be called and some chick yells out bingo. Man I was pissed. $500 bux should have been mine. This happened to me twice. I will just tell you that we finally did win. Not really worth telling you about but it wasn't enough for me to go and get some strippers and beer and have a nice party.

Had quite a few beers along with the gambling needless to say I will be back. Good fun.

So Sunday rolls around and that means up and straight to the couch. Talk to a few friends and do some laundry. I will leave it as my friend puts it... I make a good bachelor. Just look at the photo.

Yes that's my aircheck tape from my show on Friday wrapped completely around my clothes. That's the first time that has happened with a tape, but I have done it with concert tickets, and that's definitely not a pretty site. Plus difficult trying to tell the box office what your ticket numbers were so they can replace the tickets.

Ok time to head back to the couch and get rested from my rest so I can rock the house tonight with the All Night Jam Session.

Friday Let the Cold Ones Flow

Well I finally had a chance to catch up on some sleep today. Later in the day went to Islands and had a few beers and some food with Buzz our PD and Talben our Production Director. Always some interesting conversations hanging with those 2 guys.

Headed home and relaxed to get ready for the Friday All Night Jam Session. It worked. Ended up taking another nap... I love sleep. Came in with Mandatory Metallica and threw down "Leper Messiah", "Sad But True", and "Devil's Dance".

Friday shifts are always the best. There are more calls than any other night plus everyone is out partying or ready to drink a few cold ones. In some cases people are even pissing off the neighbors by cranking up KDKB to loud late at night. I love those people.

Last Call started off with Thin Lizzy's "Cowboy Song". Also in the show was a song I hadn't heard in years which was the Toadies "Possum Kingdom". A first time request tonight for Guns N Roses' "Locomotive" that tune just plain rocks and sounded awesome on the station. Ended Last Call with a request from a chick who was up partying and wanted some old 80's Metallica. She had called another station and they basically told her no... So since I'm a giver I decided to play "The Four Horsemen". A handful of calls came in regarding how she sounded (hot and drunk) so the listeners were all wishing they were drinking with her.

By the time the show ended I was beat. Time to head over to the gym get in a quick workout and hopefully not be knocked out by the smell of ben gay that sometimes lingers in the locker room.

I will see you at the Hooters in Ahwatukee at 4p.m. to do some drinking for the NHL draft party. Until then goodnight.

Welcome Back...

So back on the 3rd shift. Man my sleep schedule is so jacked now I can't even begin to tell you. After more than a week on the day shift back to 3rd was quite a change.

I did bring the All Night Jam Session back with a bang though. Mandatory Metallica of course got things going. The S & M version of "One", "Whiskey in the Jar" and "The Prince". That was just the beginning of the night. I took quite a few phone calls with some loyal KDKB'ers wondering where I had been...which is good to hear..Some thought I was canned, others thought I was back on the road, but most knew I was filling in on the day shift.

Last Call was a damn good one with things getting started with Joe Walsh's "ILBT" or I Like Big Tits which was dedicated to Marci who did the morning show topless. Also in there was Whitesnake's "Still of the Night" and I thought I had the girl ready to come dance on my hood but she just laughed...The way I see it is she coulnd't have looked any worse than Tawny does now. Also the best call of the night came in from "The Cabby to the Strippers" he is the lucky driver who picks up the strippers...excuse me I mean Entertainers from the clubs and drives them home. I don't think that's a bad job, but I'm sure there is some scary parts to that job. He did say he was going to bring a couple by the studio some night...We will see how that goes. Of course I will keep you posted.

Rounded out the shift with Aerosmith's "Walkin' the Dog" live. Kick Ass! Ended up going home to crash for a few hours before the appearance at a Quick Trip. It was hot. Always an interesting group of people that you meet on something like that.

Then it was back in the gym for the first time in about a week. Man it's like starting completely over again. Off to Safeway for food and other necessities and man the one by my place sucks! Friendly people but they just don't have things you need.

I think your caught up now. Off to bed.

Normal? And Another Tesla Tuesday

Well I figured I needed to put up something here this week. I have gotten a few emails asking where I have been for the All Night Jam Session and well I have been filling in off the air for our Production Director. For those who don't know that is the person that puts the commercials together and other pieces that you hear on the air besides the music and DJ's.

I have been excited about working a normal week this week, but really what is normal for me anymore? I love coming in and being there during the day. The station has a fun vibe about it when the entire staff is there. Something I only see for a couple of hours during the week. The funny thing this week has been I get tired at like 9 p.m. which is great but I can't sleep that early so I end up being awake until 3 a.m. then it sucks since I have to be at the office at 8 a.m. This week has my body's sleep schedule all jacked up.

As much as I love being on the air I could certainly do this job on a regular basis. It's fun and challenging. Being on air is great too. I will be back on air on Tuesday night / Wednesday Morning when T.M. makes his return to the building.

It was cool being able to go see Tesla and throw back some cold ones without having to go on the air that night. Again never let down by that band. Simply an awesome show. Tesla have always put on a great concert and been one of my favorite acts to go see. Even though Jeff was under the weather Tuesday night he still sang his ass off with Frank Hannon and the crowd covering when needed.

They started the show with "Rock Bottom" and damn it blew me away! Played "Love Song" earlier in the set than I expected but when they pulled out "Lazy Days and Crazy Nights" I almost didn't believe my ears. Frank did a killer version of the Frampton classic "Do You Feel Like We Do". I do have to say I wish they could have played "Ball of Confusion" or "Higher" from Real to Reel but they didn't and I still walked out thinking that the show was f**king awesome. They even did the first verse to Foghat's "I Just Wanna Make Love to You". Now back on the first Tesla Tuesday when I was talking with Jeff I mentioned I loved the tune "Rock Me" from the first CD and he said they were going to play it during this tour. When I heard the opening lick on that tune that was it. I was like damn. Just shocked. And it of course kicked mucho ass.

Left the concert a happy dude with my Tesla shirt and FREE Real to Reel Disc 2.

If you missed them this time around you have to see them next time. By the way Dave Rude the newest member of the band is an amazing player.

It was Tesla Tuesday

It was a very cool day around the station yesterday as it was Tesla Tuesday. Real to Reel 1 finally out in the stores for everyone to enjoy. They are doing something a little different this time around so when you buy a ticket for the show you get Real to Reel 2 for free. 25 cover songs of some of their favorites. Damn good deal if you ask me.

Tesla took over the studio about 10 a.m. and talked about the release, their shows coming up and played live over the 4 hours in the studio. The guys were very cool and down to earth. Took phone calls from fans...This is a band that definitely has not forgot who put them where they are. Signed autogrpahs and took pictures for fans that came by the studio and waited outside in the 107 degree temps. One of the highlights of the afternoon was watching Frank play "Eruption" live in the studio into Van Halen's "You Really Got Me". I'm telling you it was incredible and dare I say it almost impossible to tell it apart from Mr. Eddie Van Halen.

We might have to keep Jeff close and use him for some fill in work. He was pretty good on the air and so was Frank. Brian would answer the phones as Big Daddy Rabbit. That was hilarious. There were even a few people who called in and didn't even realize they were talking to the band.

Overall it was an awesome afternoon... and the vibe around the station was like old school radio days. Everyone was excited to have the band stop by and hang.

It was certainly a long day for me. I was a little tired, but again Metallica got things going. "Blackened", "Master of Puppets",and "Fight Fire with Fire" was the set for the morning.

As always interesting calls came in for Last Call including some dudes working at Jiffy Lube at 3 a.m. Had some great compliments from listeners as well. I rocked the 2 a.m. hour with some Pat Travers, Kid Rock and even some Kiss with " I Was Made For Lovin' You".

Ended the morning with a double shot of Pink Floyd.

Good stuff.

Monday Morning

I don't know what the hell it is about court TV that gets me hooked, but last night after Gene Simmons Family Jewels...there was nothing on so flipping thru the channels and I see some hot lawyer on this show and that was it.. I was reeled in.. Man I'm easy..

Thankfully it didn't last long and away I went to the station to start everyone's Monday with three ass kickin tracks from Metallica. "Disposable Heroes", "Sad But True" and "Loverman". Always helps to bring in the in week with some music that get your blood going.

Things were a little slow this morning, but it was Monday. There were a few people stil doing the party thing at like 3 a.m. Last Call brought back the Repo guys as they were out to get a new Beemer, and new Navigator. They claim they have no remorse for doing what they do, but damn has to suck when people put up a fight for their stuff. Also had a prison guard call in this morning... that's definitely a job not for me. You just have to be plain crazy to do anything at a prison. Played some great stuff tonight from Motley Crue, George Thorogood, and new Tesla was also in Last Call. Those guys will be in the studio tomorrow from 10a.m. to 2 p.m. taking your calls and playing acoustically and some of the new tracks from Real to Reel.

Off for another Episode at the gym.

Who?

Who watches the WNBA? Who knew there was a WJF (World Juggling Federation)? Scarred?

The WNBA I didn't even realize there was still a league until I went to the baseball game last weekend and one of the girls threw out the first pitch.

Saturday night I stayed in after a night of drinking on Friday and well I watched way to much T.V. On ESPN late night there was actually a show on the World Juggling Championship. I couldn't believe there was actually 30 minutes dedicated to this. I kept wondering who watched this and then realized that dummys like me were the ones watching this. I ended up doing some channel surfing and tried to watch this show on MTV called "Scarred". for those that have never seen this...well it is crazy! It's one of the most painful shows I have ever watched...or tried to watch.

Every scar has a story. Inspired by the popular user generated clips of crashes, wipeouts and accidents that permeate the internet, Scarred is an inside look at some of the most gruesome scars from around the country. Each week, we'll track down some of these makeshift stunt men and women to find out what went wrong, what happened in the hospital, and how they got Scarred. This show is almost too painful to watch.

ALMOST to painful to watch.. they must be crazy. I watched like 3 of these and then I had to turn the channel it was just freaking me out. I mean one dude broke his forearm and it was in the shape of an "S" and you see the video and hear it all on the actual video. Just plain unreal.

As far as the rest of the weekend goes well outside of drinking on Friday pretty damn uneventful for me. JR and Marci they made the news a few times regarding the idiot who called in on Friday's show about the dog fighting. They will be rerunning the call again on Monday morning at 6. Make sure your tuned in to check out this a**hole.

Tune in at Midnight on Sunday for Mandatory Metallica.
