From Raleigh to Phoenix

What a long strange trip it's been. After being in Raleigh for 2 years to the day and having worked at 106.1 WRDU for almost that entire time. The heritage rocker went country and I was out on my ass for almost 4 months.

I left Raleigh, NC on Feb 27 and headed West. I can't tell you how many times I have made the trip across the Country, but one thing is for sure it hasn't changed. Of course it's always more fun making the trip with friends and co-workers than it is by yourself. The great thing is after being on the road for so long I never have to pay for a hotel, someone always lets me crash on their couch or spare bedroom. I will spare you the details of the drive other than I talked on my cell phone most of the drive since that drive can be very boring at times.

Let's just skip ahead to March 10. I got a phone call from Buzz Casey to let me know I had finally landed a great gig in Phoenix, AZ at
93.3 KDKB. I think this could be the right job after all these years. Buzz tells me I will be producing the Alice Cooper show, on air overnights, and off air production. All I can think is "Kick Ass!" I have a F**king job, finally. Plus to be working in Phoenix is unreal.

Again I will skip the details of the drive from L.A. to Phoenix.

I had my first night on the air on March 19 and you would think it would have been pretty easy since I had been out of work for almost 4 months. Well that was not really the case. In the case of my former co-worker
Bob the Blade who went to a station that wasn't to far from RDU. How easy is it to go from saying "106-1 RDU to 106-5 SFL?" Here it is 93-3 KDKB Everything That Rocks, plus I had to learn all new equipment which is never fun. I did think that kicking off the show with Mandatory Metallica would have made me feel right at home it certainly was not the case, but I managed.

The first break was a tough one as I immediately fell into old habits.

I did manage to recover pretty quick going thru the evening. As jocks are always told just dont f**k up the call letters. I made sure of that.

Since the first night and playing some kick ass Rock from Metallica, Dio, Robin Trower, Zep, Van Halen, Megadeth and Ozzy plus the Classics we love to turn up to 11 this is the gig and Radio is actually FUN!!!
