Finally...after 4 days on the road I made it to Winter Park, Fl. It was definitely a long drive. As always on the drive across the country I stopped to see some friends. That is one thing about the music business you meet great people all over the place. I have spent the past few days putting together the video clips of the trip to show those of you who have never driven I-10 across this great country.
I will be posting the videos in the next couple of days.
Stay tuned

Catching Up...
I have been swamped the past few days and here it is Sunday night and ready to begin the drive back to the East Coast Monday morning. I will try and get you caught up to this point.
Thursday headed out to the North End... A great dive bar in Hermosa Beach. It's one of those places that's easy to get hammered in...got out of there early and ended up at Ercoles in Manhattan Beach. End of the day I was drunk as hell.
Friday met with another couple friends Bart Ryan and Ken Gratz. I found out the Bart is now a Kung Fu Master which basically means he can kill me with a flick of his fingers. Caught up with him then ended the evening throwing back a few beers with Ken. Drove back to Manhattan Beach in the pouring rain. I swear people in LA do not know how to drive as it is, but man when you throw rain in the mix forget it. They become just plain stupid.
Saturday ended up in Hollywood again with Todd and some old friends from days gone by. I mean like 10 years ago or so. It was crazy. I can't tell you how cool it is to catch up with friends you haven't seen in a long ass time. We were partying at the Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills. Interesting place. I don't think anyone stays there I think they just party there. It was just to loud for anyone to even think about sleeping there. I told Todd I would give him a couple hundred bucks if he would go and do a cannonball in the pool with all his clothes on but he chickened out.
So here it is Sunday and the drive begins Monday at 6 a.m. Stay tuned.

Day 4
Here it is Friday but I guess I should fill you in on what has been happening since Wednesday. I have been meeting with some old friends over the past few days..
Always great catching up...Met up with my good friend and talented guitarist Todd on Wed. afternoon in Hollywood. We decided to go to the Saddle Ranch on Sunset. Great food. You just never know who you will see just being a tourist. As we were eating I managed to see Rob from Rob and Big cruising down the street. When I went inside to take a wiz... There was Zach from Big Brother season 8. I told him sorry he lost and that I would have liked to have seen him win. He was cool, but didn't talk to him long since he was eating with his family.
We then decided to hit Melrose Ave. Street of weirdos. Lots of hotties. Then we hit this store called Necromance or something and man it was just plain crazy. All kinds of syringes from the early days, rings with 666 on it, fake eyeballs in rings, dolls with missing parts....The chicks working there definitely haven't seen the sun in years. I mean I looked tan compared to these women and that is just plain f**ked up.
Drove home from Hollywood which just takes forever.. It's an easy 30 minutes just to get to the freeway. Nightmare! Wed night just chilled out watched some TV.
Day 5 and the weekend coming up....

The Whaler
Here I am Day 3 into my vacation and I am trying to figure out what to do until I leave for Florida. Yesterday I ended up just hanging out killing time.. Went for a run down the beach finally, but that really took a lot of energy to do. Then of course I am at the furthest point in my run and my damn Ipod goes out. Why does it always go out at the furthest point or at the beginning of your workout in the gym?
The one thing is on the run I got to check out some of those over priced houses on the beach.
The weather has been kick ass out here. It's amazing how quickly you can get used to the 75 or 80 degree weather instead of the 115 in Phoenix.

Last night ended up at the Whaler in Venice Beach. Cool bar and its right on the beach. Cool as hell. Venice Beach still to me is home to the weirdest people on the planet. Just spend a day walking the Venice Strand and you will see. Hung out with my bro and talked about the St. Louis Cardinals and how he is moving to downtown LA in a penthouse studio. Threw back a few Budweiser's...which by the way there is nothing like an ice cold beer after a long day of relaxing.. or working for that matter. As we were talking sports we find out the bartender was from St. Louis. One of the customers across from me at the bar noticed my RDU shirt and we started talking about what a great station it used to be. Pretty funny when you realize what a small world it is.
I also got to drive home his Hummer. I am used to driving the Tank Hummer H1 from the days with WRDU in Raleigh, but what difference these things are. I mean this was pretty sweet, comfortable, and smooth.. Even though to me if I'm driving the Hummer give me the Tank! The H1 kicks ass!

On The Road Again...
Damn how I hate that song...I have started the trek to my new destination of Orlando Fl, but first I decided I would go to L.A. and spend some time with family and friends since I knew heading back East would not allow me to see them for a while. Also because well the drive from Phoenix to FL just wasn't quite long enough for me (sarcasm mode on).
It was great pulling into Manhattan Beach, CA on Saturday. I haven't seen 70 degrees in 6 months at least. Let me say this first.. I loved Phoenix what a great city, but there is something about driving to work at 11:30 p.m. and it is still 100 degrees. That is just plain WRONG! So man that 70 mark was an awesome feeling... Dare I say it.. I was cold. It did feel good though.
The drive for those who care to know is pretty easy...it's just a straight shot on I-10. Boring but that is why you just crank up the tunes and rock.
Photo from I-10 in Indio, CA
By the time I got to town and after the move the day before I was just plain beat. Ended just grabbing some dinner then chilled out...
Today though is a different story... Football Sunday..

A New Chapter
Well the time has come.. The last air shift maybe for good? Who knows... I do know it was the last one here at KDKB. What a great 6 months it has been. It was a fun evening with Stephanie in the studio as she will be taking the reigns of the All Night Jam Session beginning on Monday.
Great phone calls rolled in from loyal listeners wishing me well. You really don't know how cool it was to have everyone calling in.. Fucking awesome!
We played some great tunes during Last Call including Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in the Jar", Sabbath's "Paranoid" by the way listeners never get enough Black Sabbath. Cream's "Crossroads" was in there for a dude who was changing his oil at 2:30 a.m. By the way who the hell does that? We had a ton of calls coming in for me to play my own request... I could have done a few different songs but decided to go with Whitesnake's "Slow and Easy". They loved it. Every road trip I have taken Slide It In is in the CD changer.
Frank called in to complete the evening. This guy is crazy Requesting some AC/DC he had to go with Brian Johnson though and not the king Mr. Bon Scott.
Again I want to thank everyone especially the awesome staff at the station, but especially Buzz. The guy knows his radio business and is a cool mofo. Crazy how things can come full circle.

My Last Days....Fun to listen to Hard to Look At.
The final countdown and I am not talking about the Europe song. Here it is the final 3 days for me at 93.3 KDKB. I definitely want to thank everyone for their support on my decision to leave. The past 6 months here have been awesome. For those that care to know where I am headed ...the destination is Orlando, Florida. I am hanging up the headphones to go back to school for a Bachelors Degree in Digital Media and Design.
The entire staff at KDKB is a great bunch of people. From the sales department to my co-workers in programming and promotions. I wish them nothing but the best of luck in the future. This is a job and business that I love but it's time to move on. I also want to say thanks for all the crazy 3rd shifters and late night partiers and even those doing shit they shouldn't be for tuning in and rocking and of course keeping me entertained in the early morning hours. Great memories my friends. Feel free to email me at bryantheroadie@gmail.com
Stephanie is going to be my replacement whom you have heard on the weekends and also filling in for me from time to time. She is awesome and will keep things rocking from 12a to 5a. Judging by the phone calls that came in over the past couple days.... you love the fact she is going to be at the helm. The most popular quote is....."Roadie your fun to listen to but hard to look at." 2nd runner up is "Stephanie is easier on the eyes than Roadie". By the way both of those are true statements. She will still have your Mandatory Metallica and Last Call to help you thru the night. She knows her stuff.. She's a rocker. I will still be in the studio and on air for the next couple days so feel free to call and say hey or of course you can email me at bryantheroadie@gmail.com

Workin' for the Weekend
It's FRRIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDAAAAAAAYYYY! Let the games begin.
I am not sure why but this was a long ass week and there was only 4 days. I heard from a couple of old friends this week. Always a fun chat when you haven't spoken in years. There was some bad news in there too but for the most part it was all good. Crazy finding out friends your age have passed away. It also makes you want to head straight to the gym and workout. Just to make yourself feel better.
On a happier note.... Last Call tonight was kick ass! Threw in some Shinedown, Robin Trower and even some "Heavens on Fire" from Kiss. I love when people tell you they are going to not listen any more if you don't play their song. Had a few peeps call up and ask why we promoted Steve Vai but never played him.. so I broke out "Bad Horsie" from his "Alien Love Secrets" CD. If you like Satch you gotta pick up some Vai. Then there was the guy last night who said he would switch Clear Channel again if I didn't play "Crazy Babies" from Oz. Well good luck with that my friend. But being the Rock God (sarcasm turned on) I played it for him anyway. The reality is he would never hear any Ozzy out here from a CC station.
Tonight the beers will be flowing not sure where but it really doesn't matter. Just keep them cold and keep em coming.
Next week is an exciting week with some big news. Make sure your tuned in.

Mindless Ramblings.... The USPS
One thing about getting up early here in Phoenix is that you are never prepared for the 110 plus heat. It's overwhelming but damn when you roll out of bed after a couple of hours it's worse.
I tell you my life has been pretty boring the last couple days. I did manage to catch an interview with Richard Branson the founder of Virgin. The guy never graduated high school and is worth 7.8 BILLION. In interest alone he makes $705,000 per hour! I think I could get used to that kind of life.
So today I had to run by the post office and drop off some mail...For the life of me every time I go to a post office the same questions always enter my head.
1. Why is it always packed every time I go no matter what time I go?
2. Are those jobs really that stressful?
3. Why is it that after a person waits in the line when they get to the window and they still have no idea that they haven't filled out the proper forms or address labels?
4. Why is it a major life decision to send a package Priority Mail or regular mail?
5. Is it really hard to work the stamp machine in the lobby?
This might be some of the reasons why these guys go "postal".
These are also the same reasons why I do not mail anything anymore. Another reason besides porn why the Internet is awesome. You can email everything and pay bills etc.. Before today I can't even remember the last time I bought a stamp. Today was just stuff that had to be mailed.
Then it was off to the station for an afternoon meeting. Ended up hanging around to long but I figured I would just wear out my welcome.

The Cock of the Walk
The long weekend is over. Pulled 2 shifts on Monday.. One was filling in for the morning show from 5a to 10a. Then of course back again at midnight for the All Night Jam Session. For the most part things were pretty dead tonight. I think everyone was still recovering from the weekend.
My friend and former co-worker Bob "The Blade" sent me the following photo over the weekend. I got a great laugh out of this one as did he.

It was taken a couple weeks after our last radio station flipped formats to Country. We were joking about how we managed to act like we cared so we could keep our jobs at least for a few weeks. It worked ... Kind of.. We still got canned and left. Well actually Blade just walked off the air at the end of his shift. That was just plain classic. I will never forget it. Well I will never forget the next day since everyone in the building was asking me about it. All I could do was laugh. For those few weeks that we were there we felt like we had sold our souls. It sucked. To make matters worse they kept the legendary call letters of WRDU and changed the moniker to Rooster Country. What the f**k?! Rooster country? I still laugh and it's a good thing they let me go since I don't honestly think I could have said that without laughing. I still have some good friends working there and I wish them nothing but the best...I will say I am glad things played out the way they did. You can't beat rockin' in the West.
As it has become part of the morning ritual off to watch me some Megyn Kelly. WOW!
