The Long Weekend

I started feeling under the weather yesterday, but got some advice from my friend Sharen who reminded me to take Cold EEZE...That stuff is awesome. It's simply some Zinc tablets, but they do the trick. As soon as you start feeling a little sick just pop these and you feel awesome the next day. It's kinda like Ny-quil used to be for me. That's good stuff too. The real difference is the Cold EEZE don't taste nearly as bad as Nyquil.

Last Call for a Friday could not have been better. White Zombie, Kiss, The Nuge, Faith No More and the Scorps to name a few. We were freakin rocking! I knew the late nighters knew how to throw down.

It's a Threefer Madness weekend... Make sure you listen for the 3 Van Halen tunes to win your free tickets to the show on Nov 23. That is if it makes it out here. I'm giving it about 5 shows. We will see.

So tonight I will probably be heading out to the Last Exit to check out some local bands in the battle of the bands. That all depends on if I make it past Happy Hour. Me and the Buzzman are supposed to head out and if Talben comes along it could get ugly.

Have a great weekend everyone... Make sure you tune in Monday from 5a.m. to 10a.m. I will be filling in for JR and Marci.

Off to watch Megyn Kelly.

Listener Appreciation Day...

Before I get going I have to just say that every morning when I come home I have to watch America's Newsroom on Fox. Only because the co-host Megyn Kelly is smokin!(Her photo top right) I must say though that not only is she hot, but she is actually a good reporter. Did I mention she was hot? I mean you can actually just turn down the TV and look at her. Makes for some sweet dreams. Seriously.

Now on to Listener Appreciation Day. We at 93.3 KDKB appreciate you tuning us in and rockin'.

Again tonight the 3rd shifters / late nighters didn't let me down. You guys came thru with some killer tunes. Nickelback's "Animals", Megadeth's "Sweating Bullets" and Alice Cooper's "Only Women Bleed" got the morning / night started off right. So many requests it's hard to remember them all. I will say this the crazier requests definitely came out tonight. I consider myself pretty on top of music whether it's Classic Rock or New Rock and I was getting requests for stuff I have never even heard of...Hell I couldn't even find the stuff on Napster.

Even managed to roll a few double shots for L.A.D. The phones were super busy and thanks to those who stuck around long enough for me to answer.

More in the blog later... Time for bed.

SRV Oct 3,1954 - Aug 27, 1990

So yesterday marked a sad day in rock with the death of Stevie Ray Vaughan. I browsed through you tube to see what was out there to watch some clips of his performances and man he was just incredible. There are not many people I haven't seen, but that was one guy I wished I had. I guess I have the next best thing which is the actual sound board recording of Stevie's last show. (Thanks Todd M.)

I happened to find an interview clip with Double Trouble. This a great interview and about 5:13 in Tommy tells a funny ass story of them shopping. Then Chris tells another classic about some pens.(about 7:00 min in)

Most people even remember exactly where they were when they heard the news. If you did consider yourself lucky. You can read an obituary from People here

Some SRV quotes:

I wanted to play saxophone, but all I could get were a few squeaks.

But between sets I'd sneak over to the black places to hear blues musicians. It got to the point where I was making my living at white clubs and having my fun at the other places.

Lots of times I'll play lead and rhythm together.

So tonight was the lunar eclipse. I must say it was pretty freakin' cool. I kept running outside of the building to check out the moon. Pretty wild seeing the color change almost spooky when it was this red color. A lot of listeners calling in and making requests to go along with the eclipse. That meant of ton of calls for Billy Thorpe's "Children of the Sun", and Jimi Hendrix "Third Stone From the Sun". I don't think people realized it was a LUNAR ECLIPSE! Lunar = Moon. Some did get it and made the request of Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon".

Also managed to fire up ACDC's "If You Want Blood". That song just f**king rocks. I will say it again there is nothing like Bon Scott ACDC.
Today also marks the day where I get back my hard drive. Thank you!

Don't forget to make your requests for Listener Appreciation Day on Thursday.

It's Been A While

Today was a good day...the dude from Best Buy called and told me they were able to recover all of my old data....WOO F'N HOO! Surprisingly it didn't cost nearly as much as expected either.

I broke down and had some McDonalds today too...Man I am trying to cut out the fast food so bad... just not working even though I only eat it about 1 time a week now when it used to be worse.

I saw one of these commercials today too about the home gym's. The Boflex or whatever and it kills me how they sit there and tell you "only 30 minutes a day 3 times a week and you can have a body like this." How in the hell do they get away with that? We know it takes a good diet also. I mean if it only took 30 minutes a day 3 times a week I would have a body like a freakin brick shithouse. I am there 45 minutes to an hour 6 days a week. I am still not even close. Oh well my diet sucks. I try and change.

So another interesting night in the studio for the All Night Jam Session. Always some weird calls, and crazy listeners at 2a.m. they certainly help pass the time.

Today I hope I can sleep until about 3 since the last couple days I haven't slept worth a crap. Catch ya again this evening.

It's Frrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidddddddddddddaaaaaayyyyy!

So after the Poison / Ratt show I was ready to just chill for my Thursday, but that didn't happen. It was time for Happy Hour with JR and Marci. So I ventured out with Buzz, our boss, and threw back a few. I freakin' love Widmer Hefewizen. That beer is gooooood stuff.

Needless to say it was a fun show when midnight rolled around. Kicked off the show with Mandatory Metallica as always. Phone calls came it like crazy...One good thing about the Friday show phones are always pretty busy.

Last Call rocked with Thin Lizzy's "Emerald" for Dave the painter who is just a little fanatical about Thin Lizzy, but it's cool we all have those bands. Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction" was in there as well and I tried to get Sara, the girl who requested it to sing it, but she couldn't. All she knew was there was a song that had the words Pied Piper and knew it was Megadeth. The new Nugent tune and Maiden's "Wasted Years" ended the show. KICK F'N ASS!!!

3rd Shifters know how to rock!

Have a great weekend Home F*cks.

Poison / Ratt

There are a lot of great things about Phoenix. One of them is the amount of conerts that roll in. Friday is Deep Purple. Which will be a great show.

Last night was Ratt / Poison. I was really looking forward to seeing Ratt since it had been years since I last saw them. I was not let down. The guys didn't miss a beat. It took me back to the days of growing up listening to these guys. They played it all "Body Talk", Way Cool Jr", "Back For More", "Lack of Communication" and of course "Round and Round". Another bonus was the amount of little clothing on the chicks. They actually looked good for the most part. I honestly didn't see as many girls trying to fit into their clothes from 1989 as I thought I would have. I didn't see much big hair either.

Poison was also fun to watch. I just wasn't into seeing them as much since I just saw them last year in NC. As much as people make fun of this era of music...these bands still put on great shows. Nothing like the guys now who just stare at the stage or jump once or twice during the concert. The hair bands always had some pyro and cool light shows. They still do.

I am still not a fan of Poison's cover CD. They played a couple songs from it last night and it might have been better live than on CD, but seriously don't need this one in the collection.

It was a rough show tonight since I hadn't slept since 1p.m. on Wednesday and with throwing back a few at the concert always makes it for a long night. One day I will learn.

It really is time for bed...

Oh Man! Random Thoughts

So it's been a few days, but my parents came to visit and I just didn't feel like posting anything. I will say I ate way to much food while they were here.

Took another trip up to Sedona. I love it up there. Nice people (at least to me) Great scenery. I swear when I have my second home it will be there.

The big news is of course VH back with Diamond Dave. Now that I have had a couple days to think it over... I am OK with seeing these guys again. I think the success of this has to do with whether DLR can still sing. He must also not attempt to do any high kicks and shit like that. Just a side note I think Wolfie looks like Eddie but has the weight of Valerie.

Good to be back in the studio last night. Always fun starting the week off with Motorhead. Lemmy is god.

Monday night driving in the lightning was unreal. There are some great storms here. Driving in to the station checking out the lightning was very cool. Even on Tuesday there was some pretty impressive strikes.

Now tonight it is Poison and Ratt at the Dodge Theatre. This show is going to be cool not just for the bands, but for the fact this is going to be a fun one to people watch. I am looking forward to seeing how many of the big hair chicks from back in the day # 1 still have their hair that way and # 2 seeing how many of them are still trying to fit in to those same clothes.

It's going to be nothing but a good time...Sorry I had to say it.

Game Shows...and a Helpful Tip

So by this point you all know that I am hooked on reality TV. Now I am watching the new game show Power of 10. The question that threw me was this:

What percentage of men in the U.S. would give birth if they could?

I'm thinking this can only be like 1% at the most. (Since it can't be zero)

I can tell you I would have been sent packing. The answer was 30%! Does anyone know a man that would do this if they could? I sure as hell don't. Who are the producers polling for this show? I have never met a man in my life who would do this. The other thing is I have lived all over this country and I have never been a part of any of these people surveyed or questioned for game shows or political polls.

I think I finally got my computer fixed. Now I just have to send out my hard drive to get fixed which is going to be a nice chunk of change. I wish these people knew I worked in radio.

Some of you may know that we get some pretty wacky emails and I have to say this one I felt needed to be shared:

You disappointed me. Around 3:25 in the morning you said Def Leppard is coming up. I was on my way to refill the truck with gas for the following shift and had to go to the bathroom. I really wanted to hear the Def Leppard you said was coming up so I held it. I only have a few chances to use the bathroom thru my shift. BY the time I got home my stomach hurt and I almost wet myself.

So that leads me to tell you this...If you have to go to the bathroom...GO! Don't sit and wait to hear your song first. You won't miss your tune. Most people can make it to the john and back to whatever they were doing in a couple minutes. I am not responsible for any internal damage you might get because you didn't hit the bathroom. Besides who the hell holds it for that long? Go buy the Def Leppard CD. Just F.Y.I I never said anything about Def Leppard that evening.

Tired as Hell

I swear I need some tips on getting some damn sleep in the evening...On days like yesterday where I just got up to early. I ended up coming in early in the day and made it back home by 2:30 p.m. and never did get to nap until like 10 p.m. That is just way to late... Anyone have any ideas?

Tonight was the first night I drank an energy drink to stay awake. I couldn't believe it actually worked or maybe it is just simply a case of mind of matter. Of course how can you not stay awake when you drink nothing but sugar in those damn things.. I hate them. Normally it's a Mountain Dew that keeps me awake, but I didn't have any change or a freakin' dollar bill for the vending machines. When are they going to make one that takes an ATM card?

The Jam Session was interesting tonight as always. A few weird calls including a kid who supposedly was only 14 but had the deepest voice I had ever heard. I think he was lying, but maybe he needs to start now doing voice over work or something.

Highlights for me tonight included Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society with "Blackened Waters" and Billy Idol's "Mony Mony". I just haven't heard that song in a long ass time. Also managed to crank up UFO. If you didn't see the clip yet here is Michael Schenker's awful performance

This is a shortened version you can find more clips at youtube.com.

Rounded out the morning with Zep's "Rock n Roll" I still love cranking that one up. John Bonham is just incredible.

X Games / Shark Week

What a weekend! Did a little beer drinking Friday night after the big remote at the Home and Garden show.. Cuz no one knows home and gardening like Roadie... (sarcasm mode on)

Saturday was pretty uneventful...I actually made it back to the gym after about 10 days off.. I swear not that I was a muscle head before hand, but damn it was like starting all over again. Kicked my ass for Sunday. After the gym... Watched TV... Hung out... had some beers... I go to the gym so I can drink.. Seriously if I didn't hit the gym I would be a complete fat ass...

Anyway...I watched "Zodiac" and I must say good flick. Robert Downey Jr. is awesome and so is Jake Gyllenhaal or however you spell his damn name..Definitely a movie to rent.

Also caught up on Shark Week. This is what I learned........

1. Watch out in murky water
2. Don't swim in the ocean in South Africa
3. Some people are just idiots
4. Don't swim in the ocean in South Africa

I repeated something in there since these people don't understand that all the shark bites that the Discovery Channel refer to take place off the coast there... The part I don't get is that these people go back in the water again. You wouldn't catch me within 50 miles of the ocean if I got bit by a freakin shark! Let alone a Great F**kin White!

I have gone shark fishing and I will say it is a blast but if I got attacked in any way I would never do it again. I might have only caught a 4 ft long Black Tip Shark but the thing can still give ya pretty severe bite.

The next bunch of crazy people are the X-Gamers... Damn these guys are nuts, but fun to watch. Unbelievable talent with these guys. The rush for these guys has to be incredible. Now in case you missed it or want to see it on slow motion watch the clip below...This guys must fall from about 45 feet in the air.

Unreal that guy hits so hard his shoes go flying off... WOW! I can't stop watching that fall..These guys again.. are CRAAAAZY! Deep down aren't we all watching these dudes to see them crash?

I am also going to mention again Scott Baio is the man.. The amount of chicks this guy can pull in is unreal. Who would have thunk it... Chachi.. Lady Killer.. He has had them all Heather Locklear, Pamela Anderson, Playmates, Penthouse Pets, the list goes on.. He had them before anyone else.. Sheesh. Chachi? What the hell? I should have been famous.

Back to Normal?

The computer seems to be running like it should. Except it doesn't go into hibernate mode like it should. Sometimes it even takes a while to shut down. I just don't get it. I should not have any issues after reinstalling the entire operating system. So it may be going back again.

Other than that things seems to be business as usual.

Last night I went down for my usual evening nap around 7p.m. I woke up around 10 p.m. and had no idea where the hell I was. It was the craziest feeling. I swear I don't even know if I knew who I was when I woke up. I didn't know if I had to work, what day it was, whether it was 10a.m. or p.m. I was completely lost. Good thing I figured it out within a few minutes. Freaky I tell ya.

I can't believe the bridge collapse in MN. I couldn't believe what I saw on the news. The one question I can't seem to figure out is... If the bridge collapsed into the river how is the concrete slab not underwater? How is that one piece is not submerged into the river? I also don't understand why I watch breaking news. There is very little info and they just keep telling you the same thing. I found myself hooked to Fox News Channel with Shepard Smith when I got home from running around. I guess I was just in awe of what had happened.

I had some great calls for Last Call this morning. Throwing in the Nuge, Queensryche, and Metallica's Master of Puppets. Played a few Def Leppard songs this morning too for the ton of emails I received to play them. I hope you enjoyed the tuneage.

Not only did I bust out Sammy Hagar's "Heavy Metal", but also rounded out the show with Don Felder's "Heavy Metal".
